Moon phases

The different phases of the moon are:

  1. New Moon: The moon is not visible in the sky as it is between the sun and the Earth, with its dark side facing the Earth.
  2. Waxing Crescent: The moon is partially visible in the western sky just after sunset and appears to be growing.
  3. First Quarter: The moon is half-illuminated and appears to be 90 degrees from the sun.
  4. Waxing Gibbous: The moon is more than half-illuminated and appears to be growing.
  5. Full Moon: The moon is fully illuminated as it is on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun.
  6. Waning Gibbous: The moon is more than half-illuminated but appears to be decreasing.
  7. Third Quarter: The moon is half-illuminated but appears to be 90 degrees from the sun.
  8. Waning Crescent: The moon is partially illuminated and appears to be decreasing as it sets in the western sky before sunrise.
